Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda has carved a place for himself in film history through his bold and stimulating films, ushering in a wave of filmmaking in his native country that influenced numerous latter European directors. His films challenged the orthodoxy of the Polish political system when it was in thrall to the Soviet Union as well as examining the changes in Polish culture during the postwar period, and through the fall of the Eastern European communist governments. Six of his films are collected here: ZEMSTA (THE REVENGE), PANNY Z WILKA (YOUNG GIRLS OF WILKO), WSZYSTKO NA SPRZEDAZ (EVERYTHING FOR SALE), KRAJOBRAZ PO BITWIE (LANDSCAPE AFTER BATTLE), ZIEMIA OBIECANA (PROMISED LAND), and CZLOWIEK Z MARMURU (MAN OF MARBLE). See individual titles for details.
